Kävin sunnuntaina pienellä ajelulla South Shorella, päämääränäni Kejimkujik National Park Seaside, jota ei pidä sekoittaa Nova Scotian keskiosissa sijaitsevaan Kejimkujik National Park and National Historic Siteen (ei tietenkään tuolle seaside parkille oltu voitu keksiä omaa nimeä.. Tai nimeä, mikä olisi helpompi kirjoittaa oikein) Suurimman osan menomatkasta ajelin rannikon lighthouse routea pitkin, tosin yhdelläkään majakalla en tällä kertaa käynyt (ihmeiden aika ei siis ole ohi.) Matkalla ajoin myös Lunenburgin pikkukaupungin läpi, jonka vanha kaupunki on Unescon maailmanperintölistalla. Puinen vanha kaupunki oli erittäin kaunis, mutten jaksanut etsiä parkkipaikkaa, joten visiitti jäi vain läpiajoksi. Tähän tosin vaikutti myös se, että menneisyyden kaupunginrakentajilla oli selvästi hirveä hinku rakentaa kylänsä kaikkein korkeimmille mäennyppylöille, ja vanha kaupunki olikin yhtä mäkeä, jota ei siinä kohtaa huvittanut lähteä kiipeilemään valokuvien toivossa, pahoittelen.
Last Sunday I went for a little drive on the South Shore. My destination this time was Kejimkujik National Park Seaside, not to be confused with the Kejimkujik National Park and National Historic Site around the middle of the province (of course it couldn't have a name of its own, or a name that's easy to write correctly for that matter..) For the most of my drive to the park I drove along the coastline on the Lighthouse Route, but I didn't stop at any lighthouses this time (it seems miracles do happen.) I also drove through the town of Lunenburg, which has an old town that is considered UNESCO world heritage site. The wooden old town was really beautiful, but I didn't bother to look for parking, so I just drove through the area. One other reason for this was that the town builders of old just love to build their villages on the tallest hills, and because that is exactly where the old town was located, I didn't feel like climbing up and down the hills in hopes for some photographs, sorry.

Olin valmis rakentamaan itselleni pienen laavun ja muuttamaan Kejimkujikiin melkein samalla hetkellä, kun puistoon pääsin. Tätä suunnitelmaa saattaisi hieman haitata alueella varoitusten mukaan satunnaisesti esiintyvät karhut - enkä ihmettele, että pitävät paikasta, laakeita alueita täynnä marjanvarpuja. Puisto ei itsessään ole mitenkään valtavan suuri, kävelyreittejä löytyi kaksi, pidempi teki lenkin ympäri ensin läpi varpukasvillisuuden ja sitten kivikkoista rannikkoa seuraillen (tätä lenkkiä en kiertänyt kokonaan, kävelin noin kolmanneksen matkasta katselutasanteelle ja palasin takaisin, vaikka lenkki ei ollutkaan kuin vajaa 6km), ja toinen polku eteni ensin yhtä matkaa pidemmän lenkin kanssa, ja erkani lopulta upealle, rauhalliselle hiekkarannalle pari kilometriä puiston sisäänkäynniltä. Olen onnistunut muuten toistaiseksi saapumaan kaikille vierailemilleni hiekkarannoille ja rannikoille laskuveden aikaan, mikä on hämmentävää. Nousuvesiäkin voisi olla kiva nähdä. Rannan lähellä olisi päässyt kävelemään vielä isommalle rannalle, mutta pari kiukkuista lintua tuijotteli minua siihen malliin, että päätin jättää menemättä. Olettaisin, että ko. pariskunnan pesä oli jossakin lähistöllä. Reissun kohokohtia olivat rannan täydellisen kirkas (mutta jääkylmä) vesi ja kivellä rannan lähellä köllöttelevä hylje.
I was ready to build myself a little hut and move in Kejimkujik seaside the moment I arrived in the park, though I suppose the plan might not work out too well as according to the warning signs bears occasionally appear in the park - and I'm not the least bit surprised that they like the place, mostly a flat area filled with berry-producing plants. The park itself is not too large, and there were two walking trails. The longer one did a loop around the area, first through the vegetation and then along with the rocky coastline (I didn't walk around the loop though, I went about a third until I reached an observation deck and then turned back, although the trail was only about 6km long), and the other path followed along the longer loop for a while before turning to a gorgeous, calm beach a couple of kilometers from the park entrance. Btw, I have managed to so far arrive at every beach I was planning on visiting during the low tide, which is interesting. It would be nice to see some high tides as well.. There were a couple of smaller paths to a bigger beach from there, but I decided not to go as a couple of angry-looking birds were staring at me. I assume they were nesting somewhere nearby. The highlights of this trip were the crystal clear (and freezing) water of the beach, and a little seal chilling on a rock close to shore.
